Greetings, fellow gerbils!
Hey there, it's Gerry here! As you may have gathered, I am a gerbil and this is a blog about my life on this planet. I appear to humans through a machine called the GerbilMaestro, which is an exact copy of my master. I control this machine and most of the time pretend to be my master in front of other humans.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog. Thanks a gerbillion!

Weekly News Round-Up #20: 24/02/2013

I think it has to be said that this week started with a little irony in the fact that, on Monday morning, we were being told that the Academy is really trying to knuckle down on lateness to Form. Just as this was being said, people in our Form were walking in late. Oh how we're gonna miss them in a few months time...

After our week off school, it's started getting serious this half term. For example, it was the Graphics coursework deadline this Tuesday. Indeed, it does sounds like an awful lot of work. As a matter of fact, ANT was showing us her product that she made. It was a book for children learning the alphabet. The pages all have a letter (obviously) which is accompanied by a picture of an animal (whose name begins with whatever letter) and to top it off there's also a few facts about the animal as a side dish.
First of all, Wadz thought it was an interesting idea that children who were learning letters should be able to read the facts, but ANT defended herself by saying that the child was meant to have the facts read to them by an adult.
Also, I think it's fair to say that some animals were a little more difficult to guess than others. For instance, there was a double page with 'n' and 'o' on either page. The picture for 'n' was an owl. Naturally, you'd think that there was some mistake (as owl starts with an 'o', which was on the following page), but ANT cleared it up by saying it was meant to be a night owl. Other examples were queen bee for 'q', yak for 'y' and x-ray fish for 'x'.

In PE, we had a rather lengthy discussion on super powers. Attempted give everyone powers, and Wicks also argued that magic should be allowed as a super power. What do you think?

After school, someone somehow made the mistake of bringing up geography and history. I'm sure you all know that it is not uncommon for ANT, ArwaChihuahua and Wadz to have an argument about subjects and which is more useful/important/etc. So, we have ANT on Team Geog. and ArwaChihuahua and Wadz on Team History. This heated debate rapidly escalated to a full-on verbal brawl, which only ended when they reached their houses. It should also be noted that ANT was trying to bring the whole RE vs. IT debate up again, but Master just wasn't gonna have it.

Wednesday morning brought us to a rather interesting and unexpected assembly on vinyl (yes, I'm talking about music records). Overall, it held a very important message, which I personally believe is so important it deserves to be put in bold. Here it is: Hold on to your passions. There you go, something to think about.
BTW, if you were asking, no there wasn't an Assembly Music Act. The chain has been broken (gosh, it sounds like we're on 'The Weakest Link'!).

Thursday lunchtime was an interesting one. We had a nice little discussion about survival, the question was: If you were on an island and you had to choose between eating a 'spud with mud' (a potato freshly dug out from the ground) or rose petals, what would you go for? This is assuming that you had no previous knowedge of what they both were and there was no other food. Hmmm, tricky one, eh?
On that lunchtime, we also encountered another problem. It has now officially gotten to the point that there are too many Griswalds. Yes, I know it sounds strange, since Griswald is not the most common name on the planet, but after Wicks' birthday film night, I think we've all become almost more Griswald-conscious, if you can call it that...?

During Friday breaktime, we witnessed something truly remarkable. Over the past week or so, a girl, from one of the lower years, has been deliberately trying to block Master's way, but when she came up to Master that break, this boy, who's probably in the same year, gives her a right telling-off. At that point, we just all turned to eachother and thought 'Whatta hero!' Props to that guy :) It should also be recoginised that he had rather interesting hair.

Later on in the day, Master, ANT and Ruby all had their interviews. I thought I'd share with you ANT's only piece of advice to Master: "You'll be fine, as long as they don't ask you 'what is the meaning of life?' and you have to leave your answer in surd form."

Speaking of ANT, it seems that her streak of luck in German lessons is still going. In Friday's lesson, the teacher asked her a question and then forgot that she hadn't finished answering it. More on this scenario on Day 24 of the 40 Quotes of Lent.

It may be said that ANT has been less pleased with the whole 'paint rota' in Art. I think it's almost gotten to the point that the most optimistic of the human race may declare this situation a hopeless case. Never mind, 'Can't win 'em all', as ANT would say.

Until next week, have a good one :)
